Changing the Explorer settings to show file name extensions
- The computer filename is made up of two parts. The actual Name and the Extension as in "Strategy.exe".   If you cannot see the filename extension then you cannot work with files on Windows explorer.
- The extension determines the type of file. A ".doc" file is a MS-Word document, a ".lic" file is a License file, an ".exe" is an executable file that contains processor instructions, and so on.
- When you double click on a file, the computer is able to respond correctly according to the filename extension type.
- Somebody in Microsoft decided that ordinary people did not need to see the filename extension.
- This creates confusion when users try to find a file like Strategy.lic as the system hides the .lic part.
- To fix this open Explorer (hold down the Windows key whilst you tap the E key).
- At the top, Click on Tools & select Folder Options.
- The Folder Options window will show.
