Displaying Business Plans over the Internet using a Web Server
- There are Security Problems locating Editable Company Business Plan information on somebody else's web server.
- The data is usually Mission Critical, may have taken some years to perfect and represents a Valuable Company Asset.
- The data is also Extremely Confidential and carries a high responsibility.
- Our lawyers have advised that in some USA states it would be considered illegal, to permanently house what is an organisation's most critical and sensitive data, on an external provider's Web Server system.
- This is because the accuracy, confidentiality and security cannot be controlled & guaranteed in house.
- Providing your own web server in your own network DMZ is also a security risk. It requires extra administration and special firewalling.
- Some third-party website security problems can be avioded by using a high-security web server provider known as a Co-Location.
Web Forms Client, Windows Forms Client (Rich Client & Thin Client)
- Strategy Maps and Balanced Scorecards cannot easily be edited over the Internet using web browser programs such as Internet Explorer or Firefox.
- This usage mode is called "Web Forms Client".
- This mode lacks connectivity and the round trip to the server is often very slow.
- It also lacks screen control and it is not easy to position objects around the screen as we do in flowchart programs such as Visio.

- Hence our software is written in "Windows Forms mode" (like MS-Word or MS-Visio) and is not editable on a web server.
- Windows forms mode is commonly called "Rich Client" and you can run remote sessions from a Windows or Citrix Terminal server.
- This Remote Rich Client facility is known as "Thin Client" because the processing is done in the Terminal Server and the remote computer only views the screen.
- Thin Client has full windows security and is commonly used over the internet.
Displaying completed Strategy Maps and Balanced Scorecards from a web server.
- It would be possible to provide this information in display-only form.
- The data cannot be hacked and changed because it can be set to read-only mode.
- The data can be a simple copy of the "live data" so security issues are not as critical and the web server can be located outside the firewall.
- This requires us to write the Web Server Display-Only Program...
- This was scheduled to be done some time in 2008 or earlier if requested by a financial customer.
- After many thousands of downloads of our software we have yet to be asked to do this.
- However when this is done, you will be able to view example business plans here.
- In the meantime you can display them when you download the free software.
